Help. We find that the cost of hiring a car for a week/fortnight is prohibitive. I, and my family, travel to our home in Spain perhaps 20 weeks of the year. Is it more economical to buy a car with insurance for any driver and store it at the airport than hiring on an ad hoc basis. Will the storage company also deal with M.O.T. ( or Spanish equivalent) and what would the cost be for this service and storage.

Check with long term car parks at Alicante airport, they are quite reasonable offering open air or valet parking incl. car wash. Expired ITV (MOT) is no problem. In case you get caught, vehicle documents might be seized and rendered to "Trafico" were you can pick them up presenting a favourable ITV inspection certificate with in 3 days or so.
You're better off if you obtain an online appointment and can convince the officer that you are on your way to pass ITV inspection.

We use this company.
They will store your car under a fabric cover, collect it from you at the airport/deliver it back to you at the airport (or your designated family member in either case), sort out servicing, ITVs etc (to keep your car legal).

Hello
We have used MARINACARPARKING based Alicante Airport for 2 years.
Would highly recommend them. Absolutely agree Car Hire - particularly High Season is prohibitive in Spain. Feel we have already saved hundreds of Euros since we bought our own car.
