Hi....due to lockdown I am likely to exceed my 90 days international cover on my uk registered car insurance. I am waiting to register the car onto Spanish plates but again due to lockdown can't do this at the moment. My uk insurance will be renewed on annual renewal date of 2 May. Does anyone know if the 90 days international cover will start again upon renewal ? Thanks

Thanks Grahame

We were due to fly back 7 April but this flight was cancelled and re scheduled for 1st May. This flight has also just been cancelled hence the situation we find ourselves in.  We were not staying over 90 days initially. Realise now this throws up all sorts of questions....thanks

"Quotemehappy eventually admitted that after the 90 day green card period i would still be covered but at minimum cover for Spain"

I've posted this I don't know how many times both here and elsewhere, it's provided for by EU directive and whatever insurance companies might try to tell you or write in their T&Cs they cannot ignore or deny it.

Whether that continues beyond Dec 31st. is currently an unknown, probably not would be my guess, and if not then UK insurers will be able to set whatever terms they choose.

In your situation, I suggest you insure the car with a Spanish insurer, then just switch the admin when you get your new Spanish registration details.

Liberty Seguros will insure your car.

They will recognise your UK no-claims record.

They are cost-comparative with UK insurers.

The guys at this agency are working from home (they are sorting stuff for me) .... they can sort you out ...  http://www.britannialegals.com/insurance.php
