We are coming to La Mata in November for a few months and bringing our dog over does he need any particular insect protection?

I would suggest that as soon as practicable, you consult the local vet. We brought our two cats, one of whom has developed the most hideous skin allergy to flea bites here - it results in raw, red weeping patches and loss of hair over large areas as it itches unbearably. With the help of the local vet - Spanish practice, excellent - we have developed a routine which keeps it more or less under control: application of Stronghold Plus every three weeks and an anti-histamine injection from vet every 4 weeks; if any of these is missed or delayed for any reason, the whole cycle starts all over again and we have a dreadful time trying to get her back to a reasonable state. The vet said that actually it is very uncommon in cats (! Just our luck!) but extremely common in dogs.

You have been warned!!!!

Not Frontline! Fleas have developed an immunity to it which is causing all kinds of problems!

Advocate very good usually, just isn’t strong enough for our poor cat’s problem

We were advised by our uk vet to use the scalibor collar.  Absolutely useless.  Had to use the frontline drops aswell.  The ticks were having a great time.   Spoke to the vet here in Spain and he suggested using the soresto collar .  Much much better.  Haven’t used the frontline once since we got the new collar 2 months ago.
