Seems quite a little group of us on here are in the Molino Blanco end of La Mata. I’m just behind Efficax estate agents on Avenida del Agua. Been here 5 years too. It’s great for everything- buses, supermarket , sea , restaurants ….
Add me to it too. It’s the loveliest area that dive come across since first buying over 20 years ago. The village of La Mata is never a disappointment. Summer or winter, it has its own charm. The boardwalk promenade is wonderful. It snakes along the sand dunes all along until you reach Molino Blanco. Vela Beach and Fusion are lovely, upmarket restaurants while restaurant Molino Blanco is a favourite with the beach lovers for a lunch break or a coffee. Always busy and in the sun!
The main road known as the N332 bypasses La Mata so it’s safe to walk, cycle and scoot. It’s mainly flat so ideal for retirees. We’re staying here now and the weather is exceptionally warm and sunny. Beach bars are all set up and loungers are back on the beach so it’s idyllic. It’s bright until after 8pm and will begin to get cool once the sun vanishes. A light jacket is all you need when walking to the local restaurants/ bars.
You won’t be disappointed in La Mata. Years ago it was quiet during the winter months but nowadays so many Scandinavian people spend their winters here along with many Irish and British.
Don’t jump into buying without thought. Check the area out, afternoon/ evening sun, aircon in all rooms ( will help to heat during the cold winter nights) A fireplace is a plus and try to get a lounge with a door to keep heat in. Staircases opening into the lounge us very attractive but impractical. No way to warm the lounge if you can’t cause the staircase off. Storage is also vital. Make a list if what you’d like and don’t compromise.
Enjoy. Cheers. GrannyRose.
