Update:-

PCR test is required to enter Spain if you’re not vaccinated.

My family is hoping to visit me in the next week. I’m getting conflicting information about testing requirements to enter Spain.

If a tourist is not fully vaccinated, is the Rapid Antigen Test accepted on arrival into Spain? Or do they need a PCR test?

Thank you for your assistance.

PS: We’re clear on requirements to return to UK as my partner has just done the journey.

Hi Annie,

Apologies for the slow response, but this extract from Spain Travel Health suggests that unvaccinated travellers to Spain can travel with either a negative Antigen or PCR test:

"-  If the document proves a diagnostic test: date of sampling, identification and contact details of the centre performing the analysis, technique used and negative result.

  • Nucleic acid amplification tests (NAAT), which detect the genetic material of the virus (e.g. PCR, TMA, LAMP, NEAR etc.), carried out within 72 hours prior to arrival in Spain.

  • Rapid antigen detection tests (RAT), which detect the presence of virus antigens, carried out within 48 hours prior to arrival in Spain. The accepted tests are those approved by the European Commission, which can be found in the following link."

If I'm reading your update correcting, it suggests the test has to be a PCR?  Can you post the source for that info please?  There's so much confusion around the recent changes, it would be good to see it in writing.

Many thanks and kind regards,
Kim

Thanks Kim

There was something that excluded tourists from the RAT. I can’t quite recall where now. They’re on their way now and all paperwork was in order. Flights is delayed unfortunately but not long now.

Thank you. I’ve not seen any of my family since Christmas 2019 so things could get emotional.
