Hello Everyone,

We are at the start of information gathering re La Mata.  Having just returned from a delightful few days we are debating purchasing a place.  Initially it will be as a holiday home and in the future for us to escape the British winters.

We did live for several years in Andalucia and love the relaxed pace of life, but we understand the winter sun is even more generous in the Valencia province.

If anyone has the time to answer a few questions I would really appreciate it.

We loved the quiet nature of La Mata and are guessing the summer months will be much busier.  During the winter months do the restaurants along the front and main square close down?  Am I right in thinking the supermarket is the Carrefour by the petrol station?  We do not plan to have a car, how do people find the buses?  Is there public transport to Alicante airport? (This trip we spent a small fortune on taxis)

We have a ten year old daughter and am a little concerned that she will not find enough to do when it is cooler and swimming is not an option.  Has anyone got younger children out there who can tell me some of the activities on offer.

Thank you.

Jen

Hi La Mata is great,, some of the restaurants close but many stay open all year, the supermarket opposite Sabadell bank opens every day except Sunday. There's a bus service to Torrevieja and Guardamar del Segura plus to Alicante airport.

Can recommend Big House Asian Thai in LA Mata and there's an Indian on the sea front. Don't really know what would entertain your daughter but I'm sure there must be others in similar situation. You can always visit the pink lagoon just down the road where the flamingos are, hope this helps you.

We have been to La Mata at different times of the year.In winter the Seaview, Honey Kebeb, La Sonrisa, Casa Nana and also a 2 min bus ride or 10 mins walk towards Torrevieja there are a few open alll year. There are others that open during the day. You won’t struggle to find somewhere,

Hope you enjoy your place in La Mata as much as we do.Been there 2 years and still finding new places

Regards

Martyn & Sarah

For a larger supermarket there is Dial Prix which is not far (closer to the Vela Beach end of the beach).

La Mata is a perfect blend of beach, authenticity, and tranquility whilst maintaining easy access to everything you need.  There is a small-ish but perfectly formed community of British expats!

You will get better response if you start a new and separate post. Also do you want to buy or rent?  Good luck
