Currently we're on the lowest rate I assume as our standing charge just increased from 9.80 to 12.60 a month. I have been advised we are on a level 3. I think 5 is the next potentia. Does anyone know how much more a 5 would be per month please? We often used to get fuse trips with the aircons and water tank. Many thanks.

We're on 5.75 Kw and the 8 hour plan with Iberdrola. The standing charge appear to vary whether we're using peak or off peak electricity

Peak standing charge 5,75 kW x 25 days x 0,097661 €/kW day  (actual cost of electricity usage = 0,284684 €/kWh)

Off-peak standing charge 5,75 kW x 25 days x 0,015568 €/kW day (actual cost of electricity usage = 0,165413 €/kWh)

Our total standing charge for last 25 day period  was about €16, while our usage was about €6 (property empty during this period)

That's not too bad considering but as it's been Nov 2020 since we were there we need to keep the SC down. PS. do you know (or anyone else know) how Iberdrola amend the potentia - do they need access to the property (the meters are in the usual place in the street behind a locked metal door)? The reason we want it increased, apart for the added aircons (needed to meet the tourist licence regs) is the previous owners used a gas bottle for the hob and I know this is Spain but that was banned years back in the UK plus it does not feel safe - flames in a small flat LOL.

Thanks in advance...

You'll probably need a inspection/certificate (boletin electrico) from a registered electrician to state that your wiring is safe for the increased load. Iberdrola will not increase your potencia until you have this.

OK that makes sense. Fortunately I know one who lives 2 doors away. Better to be safe than sorry!

You will definitely need a boletin,  luckily you know a registered electrician who can sort that out for you. Not all registered electricians are the same ! We had a reputable electrician survey our property and he came up with a very substantial estimate which included replacement of wiring, sockets and various other accessories, the potential bill was huge. Luckily we also had two others equally reputable electricians  who provided free estimates, who checked everything and confirmed that no additional work was required. We selected one of those, and went forward saving a lot of unnecessary expenditure. We still struggle on 5.75 KW at times and have to work things out as far as consumption is concerned so that we do not trip the smart meter, it’s a pain in the arse, to be honest.
