Hi Sheila,

SUMA isn't a tax, it's the agency in the Alicante region that collects local taxes on behalf of the town halls, so when you say "Suma", do you mean "IBI" council tax?  (Suma also collects "Basura" rubbish and car tax.)

How long have you owned your property?  Have you ever received a bill?  SUMA can claim up to 4 years of unpaid IBI, along with fines for non-payment, so it's worth resolving this asap.  When you bought your property, your lawyer should have arranged for all utilities and local taxes to be transferred into your name - it would be worth checking that they did so.  Depending on the response from your lawyer, the next step is to visit your local SUMA office, which you can locate here:

Kind regards,

Kim
