Can anyone give any tips on how to read my Kindle in sunshine, difficulty reading screen due to my reflection showing on screen. Also I only get 3hrs to a full charge, is this normal, Kindle Fire 5 th edition, or is it just getting old, like me.

Thanks

I believe the Fire is simply a tablet, which will never be easy to read in sunlight. Perhaps try polarised sun/reading glasses? In the longer term, I would look to buy a dedicated e-reader which has a paper white screen and is as easily read in direct sunlight as a regular book.

Regarding the battery life, you should be getting a bit longer. Again, because it is a regular tablet, the first thing is to make sure you don’t have any power hungry apps running in the background and turn off wifi and bluetooth when not specifically using them. If that doesn’t produce a significant improvement, you may need a new battery.

Incidentally, the battery in a dedicated e-reader will last for days of continuous use.

I would invest in a Kindle Paperwhite or similar e reader.

I read quite a lot and tend to vary my reading devices. Good thing with using both a kindle and a tablet, you can synchronise your reading and easily pick up where you left off on your previous device.

With a paperwhite you can easily change the font size  and the backlight to suit your requirements and you don’t have any problem reading in sunshine.

Downside to e-reader, that if you’re reading a book with photos eg a biography, picture quality is not good, that’s why I prefer to read  them on my iPad. Again things like cookery books don’t  make for good reading on a Kindle e-reader. But for your normal run of the mill fiction, they’re brilliant.

Don’t believe what they say about battery life, unless you are a very occasional reader. If you increase your font size, it means you are creating more page turns, which drains the battery quicker as does the brightness level of your back light.  I probably need to charge my kindle every other day, or if I’m on holiday every day. But as I read at least 3 or 4 books a week (or a book a day on holiday)  so battery life depends on individual usage.

Thank you for your reply, think it might be time to invest in a paper white. Just hope I can transfer all my books.

Presumably your Fire is registered to your Amazon account.

As long as your new kindle is registered to the same Amazon account, there’s nothing more you need to do.
If you buy your new kindle through Amazon it will arrive pre registered, just connect to your WiFi and everything will be there.

You get the option of keeping everything in the cloud and downloading when you want a title. Or you can download everything stored in the cloud.

Just be aware that if your book collection has not been sourced via Amazon or other legitimate DRM provider, you may have problems with a Kindle device and might be better off with one of the many third party ereader tablets available.

Thanks Lynn, think I will definitely need to get a paper white, not that there is much sunshine at the moment.

I've got a Kindle Paperwhite.  Brilliant in the sun as no reflection and the charge lasts for hours.
