It’s a very good idea to take road trips to establish which particular area you would like to live in.
Then yes, certainly an idea to rent in the area whilst looking; but, a good idea is to spend time on the Kyero website; this is the Spanish equivalent of Rightmove. This is used by nearly all estate agents in Spain and everything is advertised here. It is easily filtered to your requirements in the usual manner. This would enable you to have a basic idea of what may be available in your chosen area; and if it was affordable you could make several short trips to view properties.
We did exactly this, we found it very helpful and it stopped us making a decision in too much of a hurry. We also looked outside our chosen area and in the end actually bought further away from our original intention.
We spent a tremendous amount of time researching property on Kyero and then pursuing the websites of the resultant agents - although do be aware that the same property will appear several times marketed by several differing agents as exclusivity is rare here.
Don’t allow yourself to feel pressured for any reason - and research, research, research before you come.
