Please be extra vigilant as it seems that petty crime is on the increase in the area of the Orihuela Costa . There is a noticeable increase in the number of thefts of purses, handbags and wallets.  This will put people off going out once again when we are all just starting to build up confidence and are wanting to support our local bars and restaurants in these difficult times.

Not sure there is an actual increase.

There will likely be much the same number of thieves about but with fewer nieve/careless visitors and holiday makers to prey on incidents could well appear to be on the up.

Live in the area as does John. Far more incidence of theft being reported and warnings given from local premises and residents reporting prowlers and suspicious people in the area. Worth trying to get a look at the CCTV mobile phone footage from places  and areas you frequent regularly posted by the owners/residents on FB etc showing crimes and suspects. Bags taken in bars, restaurants and supermarkets are the popular MO Nicola.

Thefts particularly in supermarkets and bars, at least four in one day at La Zenia Consum, one of the bars in La Zenia had on CCTV a couple of people casually lifting a handbag of the back of a chair, in on supermarket car park a car bumped into another and in the distraction a handbag was lifted from the passenger seat, a neighbour of mine had her purse lifted out of her handbag on a trip to the Habaneras Centre, it is rife across the Costa.

The car crash was a deliberate bump, the driver got out and distracted the person in the other car while their accomplice lifted the handbag on the other side of the car. The CCTV was posted on a Facebook page, the couple looked like any other couple walking through the bar terrace, not going to speculate any further.

You'd be much safer moving somewhere inland, Nicola!

Is that a threat or a promise love?

Keep your wallet in your pocket and don’t use a man bag for Christ sake.
