Hi, has anyone been able to close a Sabadell bank account remotely? I finally got my last Direct Debit transferred to WISE, but only after I’ve left Spain. Now I want to close my Sabadell account due to their high charges.

I did exactly the same too, no problem. I told them that I had sold up and moved back to the UK, with no need for Spanish banking anymore. Before you call them ensure that your balance is zero, you shouldn’t have any problems

Hi Scott and Steve,

Did you call your bank branch to close your account, or did you phone the central (English-speaking) Customer Services number?  Would you be able to post the number you called in this thread please?

Thanks and regards,

Kim

Hi Kimmy

I can't remember exactly, seem to recall that there was an English speaking phone number detail on their website and I just called that - the person who i spoke to was very helpful to be honest

Hi,

I recently closed my Sabadell account by calling 965 39 36 51 (wait a few seconds and you will be offered the English option number 3)

I just asked them to close my account as I didn't need it anymore, it was dead easy I think it took about 5 minutes whilst they verified I was who I said I was.

Regards

Gary

Ned53 … I see you have been successful in switching to Wise from Sabadell, and ridding yourself of their never ending new charges. I have existing accounts with both banks but have hesitated to try same having read of some Spanish companies and local govt, not accepting non Spanish banks etc.

If even one says no to Wise, pessimistically, the last one I would try, it would all be in vain.

Can I ask how you tackled it please eg some or all by telephone, did some require visits, and which gave you most hassle, if any.

Thanks in advance.
Bob Dav.

I’ve pm’d Dave but for others who are interested in this thread, I found this relatively straightforward. With utilities and SUMA it is preferable to attend in person. Hidraqua required an appointment which you can arrange on their website. This can even be for a virtual on-line Zoom appointment. Either way, ID is required. Iberdrola was a matter of visiting their nearest office with a copy of their last bill and changing the Direct Debit. Make sure you bring your passport as they’ll keep a copy. Before closing the Sabadell account, transfer any balance to your Wise Euro account starting in BE53 and block any debit/credit cards. I waited until they took their latest standing charge and then closed the account that day. I did not encounter anyone who was not willing to accept the WISE IBAN account. So, for anyone tired of paying ridiculous charges to a Spanish bank, persevere and just do it. I wish I had done this earlier.

Many thanks. Rang this number and successfully closed the account. Direct Debits have already started appearing in my Wise account.
