Our move to Monte is almost complete, just two weeks of cold, damp weather before the endless sunshine commences. But onto more serious and weighty matters, would anyone care to recommend an FX (Foreign Exchange) service that they have used recently? We will shortly have a large sum of UKP to exchange for lovely Euros and wondered if anyone had recently used an FX. There seems to be loads about, but which one to choose???? Any advice/guidance graciously received. Saludos cordiales.

We used Currencies Direct who are also aware of the charges and ensure you don't pay Spain bank charges when the money is transferred. They also have branches in Spain as well as dealing on line or over the phone. When you do the exchange I would get a quote from both and mention to the second company the quote you've just received from the first one. They should beat the quote to get your business and save you money. Currencies Direct certainly did so in our case.

True Pete, but there is usually enough profit built in for companies to reduce their profit to get the trade, as long as trading is not volatile at the time of the deal. If HiFX don't have a telephone option, personally I would check their rate on line while speaking to Currencies Direct on the line and ask them to beat it. Nothing to lose, except the cost of a phone call.

Hi I registered with Halo, moneycorp and one hifx. What I did was phone each and ask how many euros will I get for £50,000 I noted the time and then phoned each one back I got the best rate from money Corp in the end.

It's worth making three calls I saved over €700 in doing so as they cut their margins. My advice depending how much you have you may want to not transfer it all now as we are at still relatively low rates and it may be worth splitting your savings doing some at €1.14 I would do enough to ride out at least a full year as predictions are the £ will be turbulent and may decline below the € next year before a climb back up afterwards so if you have enough keep some £ to transfer in 2019 post Brexit you may get €1.22 again who knows

I use Transferwise.      Found them to be excellent.     Paddy O'Neill

Hi

we use GCEN no transfer charges to their uk account and no charges to convert to Euros or then onto our bank account.

They have offices in Punta Prima and also the UK.

Can highly recommend.

We have used Transferwise several times as we live in Sweden and have to move money from UK and to Spain but if you bank with Lloyds you can now transfer money through them at a cost of £9,50 irrelevent of the amount, but be aware that the recieving bank will charge you for sums over 50k

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Certainly dont seem to have charitable status.

Got 1.119 today thought that was a good rate, may be not if anyone else got better.

Excellent debate people. Really happy that a lot of people have pitched in with very worthy and valid opinions and experiences, exactly what this forum is and should be about. Sincere thanks to all thread participants.

At the moment and given the relatively small amounts we are transferring (vehicle sale in the UK, vehicle purchase in Spain), we're going to go with Transferwise since that appears on most people's recommends. But, for the larger sums that will eventually materialise, we'll need to consider the wide number of managed FX options available.
