Could someone more established and experienced advise please , the ITV test date on the windscreen sticker of my car says the test is due for renewal in May . My question is , does that mean 1st May , or before the end of May ? It is parked on my private drive and off the road so if it's the 1st is it like the MOT  I can only drive it to a test centre after 1st ?

I'm not sure if you have the whole month because we know our date and always get it tested a couple of weeks beforehand but if your ITV has run out you can't drive it anywhere, even to a pre-booked test, it has to be transported on a grua.

The date will be shown on the ITV card.

As previously stated, if expired the vehicle cannot be legally driven on the road.

You may drive the vehicle to the nearest ITV but will have to prove it if stopped.

In strict theory no but in practice yes you can drive to a pre arranged appointment.

Absolute worst case scenario would be a €200 fine (€100) if paid within 21 days.

Cheaper than guru!

It may help you if you have a look at the N332 website which is run in collaboration with officers of the Guardia Civil for English speaking people and deals with anything to do with driving in Spain.   On it there is also an English version of the Spanish equivalent of the Highway Code.

I understand that you can drive to the test centre if you have a pre-booked appointment when the test has run out. I always carry and copy of the appointment from the test centre that you can print out when you book on line.

Not according to this:

https://n332.es/when-your-itv-test-has-expired-how-long-can-you-drive-without-being-fined/
There is no mention of being able to drive to a pre-booked test, simply that when the ITV has run out, it cannot be driven on the road.
It may be in your favour if you are stopped and have evidence of the appointment and you may be let off, but strictly speaking, the answer appears to be NO.
