Thanks for the kind comments and informative response Jim. Will certainly look at taking your advice re the EX15/NIE issue.
Do you have any advice/comment on the health insurance question I posed? I would rather be safe than sorry when it comes to health and I in no way to be reliant on whatever reciprocal arrangements the NHS may have with the Spanish state health system....

Don't know where you got the 6 months from? If you are continually resident for 3 months or more you are supposed to apply for Residencia. In ordered to apply, if you do not have an S1 to entitle you to Spanish NHS, then you have to have a certificate of private health insurance. Once you have been officially resident for one year you can apply for Spanish NHS care under the 'Special Convention' depending on the Region where you live ( I think most have now ratified). HOWEVER, you have to be aware that there is no certainty over the future of Residency/ Healthcare etc following Brexit as the agreements are not bilateral with the U.K., but made as EU wide, therefore not binding to UK citizens as the process unravels. I have just relocated back to the UK as I am deeply pessimistic about the future of the Spanish economy -and hence the price of my property, as well as not wanting to worry about being an expat pawn in the Brexit process. So I took the money and ran. Good luck with your venture, but be cautious .
