Hmmm? I see what you mean. Chrome won't do it, but Firefox 70.0.1 shows the video screen with a clickable 'Run Adobe Flash', and after clicking that I have to click 'Allow' on a pop-up. It then works, and tells me that the nearest place to go is Los Montesinos town hall at Plaza del Ayuntamiento between 9.00 and 14.00.

Incidentally, it might help if you write down your address, email etc, so you can just hand that over when asked for personal details.

The Royal Mail Pension became a non-Government scheme several years ago.   I know this because my late husband was in receipt of monies from it.   The Pension Scheme never advised him but the person who was dealing with our income tax back then did and I then asked for confirmation from the scheme.

Thanks for the confirmation Golandrina. I did check it out on the gov.uk website, but nice to have secondary confirmation as well. I would have contacted my pension provider direct, but they are woefully slow in responding.

Thanks Jim. Sorry I've not been in touch. NYE and related nonsense getting in the way of the "belt and braces" stuff.

I'm going to drop my ayuntamiento a message this morning to see what they can offer, I'll let you know how I get on. Suspect this might be useful for others who are looking to save a few bob on having "an expert" do it for them.

Saludos. Steve

Why drop them a message? You need to go along in person, passport in hand to prove ID, and they'll give you the 20 digit code needed to get an elec cert.

Just a courtesy thing Jim. Wasn't sure they were open today and it's a five minute walk from our apartment to the office, so no problems.

Update. Popped down to the ayuntamiento this morning (as I hadn't had a reply to my message) and found that the offices are working on a "skeleton" staff until after the holidays hence no one to respond to online messages.

Spoke to a delightful lady (all our council staff in Montesinos are delightful) in a mix of my pidgin Spanish and her more than reasonable English (I always find it pays to at least try out my new idioma and most Spanish nearly always want to practice their English pronunciation on you) who informed me that the relevant department wasn't manned until next Tuesday (after the Tres Reyes celebrations). She also genned me up on what documentation I would need (passport & residencia certificate but with a NIE as back up - she joked about this being Spain, after all) and said the whole thing would take but a few minutes to process, there and then. We also chatted about how these processes were important and that they were expecting an influx of legal immigrants (expats, if you prefer) wanting to do the same to ensure that they were fully legit post any Brexit fallout.

Altogether a pleasant few minutes and one I look forward to continuing on Tuesday with her colleague.

Further updates to follow.

Update #2

Had a wander down to the ayuntamiento this afternoon (after Walking Football training, so a gentle "lope" was more the order of the day, it's me age y'know), presented my self to the lovely girls on the front desk and was quickly and efficiently (in Spanish, which I understood) re-directed to the secretarial department on the second floor.

Short conversation here, quick copy of NIE and passport (not interested in Residencia for some reason, looked at it, but didn't copy it), quick signature and moments later, coming out with 25 character code for the Certificacion Electronica. Easy as shelling peas. It did help by the way, that I had my email address and telephone number written down separately (cheers for the hint, Jim).

Back home minutes later and I'd already got the confirmation email (as per Jim's previous note) and am about to embark onto the next phase later today.

The whole process was, to be honest, a doddle and could be easily navigated by someone with almost no Spanish language knowledge (but it helps to at least have a go, I think). I'm always pleased with myself when I've managed to negotiate something over here, makes me feel like a real "native". I heartily recommend you give it a try.

One point, the young lady did point out that the code I was given was only valid for five days, after which I would have to apply again, but apart from that, no pasa nada.

Further "live" updates to follow.

Saludos. Steve

Thanks for reporting back Steve - hopefully that will encourage others to do the same.

Update #3

Well, that wasn't as difficult as I imagined it to be. Just a couple of wrinkles though.

I couldn't just click on the .p12 file, I had click on the "Install PFX" option on the drop down menu. The operation was the same, just not a click n go.

I'm unable, as per your guide, to view my certificates. I'm using Microsoft Edge. I'll have a root round and see what I can find. I assume that there must be some Certificate Management tool in there somewhere.

Apart from that, I have to assume that I have the certificates (just can't see them at the mo) and am ready for the next stage.

Saludos. Steve
