Thanks Steve. I'd no idea how Windows 10 manages certificates.

Just a thought. Temporarily change your default browser to Firefox and try again, to get the cert installed in that.

Alternatively, without making Firefox the default:

Tools

Options

Privacy & Security

Certificates - View Certificates

Import

Should keep you quiet for a few minutes!

Update #3 (or is it 4)

Well (again), given up on whether I can or can't see the appropriate certificates in Firefox/Edge/Windows10 or whatever, all a load of stuff and nonsense I'm sure. Did come across something in Edge called Manage Computer Certificates in File Manager in Edge/Windows10, but all that showed me was that I had a LOT and I mean A LOT of Certificates on my computer, most of which I have no idea what they do or why they are there. I did, however, notice that some of them had familiar names to the ones mentioned in Jim's guide to acquiring a Digital Certificates, so, something was looking good, whatever it was.

Anyway, I thought the best thing was to access my details on the Hacienda website to see what they "had on me" that would test the theory that I had indeed, installed my Digital Certificate. All easy peasy again with the help of Jim, not a problem, access gained as per the guide …. but wait, there's more!

All the details were fine, except that there are bits missing (Civil Status, Passport Number et al) but the main problem was my "fiscal" and "notification" addresses were both some random calle in Rojales and not where I have been all my time in Spain, here in Montesinsos … strange. Anyway, I 've had a go at amending them and it seems to have worked. I'll check later to see if the changes I've made have "stuck".

Saludos. Steve

PS.I've also signed up (or at least I think I have) for alerts from the Hacienda via both my mobile and email. I'll update on whether this works as well.

Congratulations again, Steve.

I've done tax returns for years now, for ourselves and friends, and never yet come across fiscal data being correct. In some cases I've spent more time correcting the data than doing the actual returns. Most people are registered with the tax office via the report that their bank puts in, and that lacks some information. Some of the friends I've done returns for had them done previously by 'experts', none of whom bothered to correct the fiscal data.

For your next trick - register with DGT for notifications. If you trip a speed camera etc, you'll be told straight away by email and SMS.

Sorry I've been AFK for a while, landlord and bank issues have taken up an inordinate amount of my spare time. Back manning the guns again now.

Interesting way of testing the communication links Jim, I think I'll pass on that particular method for the time being, but it's handy to know that if I do "get a flash" that my subsequent misery will be compounded by the fact that I've given them the most efficient way of notifying me of the transgression. A form of progress, I suppose.

Nothing further to add on the tax self-assessment front until the application is due I suppose? I have compiled all my income from my P60's for the year (January to December) 2019, so I suppose I just wait for the official exchange rate number, quick calculation and then add the figures to my individual entry and submit? Sounds like a doddle to me.

Hi Steve, you can do the calculations now:

https://www.costablancaforum.com/area/mudamiento-spain-77813/taxes-suma-nie-tax-advice-in-mudamiento-25/jims-guide-residents-income-tax-2019-exchange-rates-84856/

Hacienda say the tax return period starts on April 1st. I got ours in on April 2nd last year, so see if you can beat me. As usual, I intend to post a how-to guide once I've sussed out any changes and done our returns.

Once you've done the first one, then it really is a doddle, especially now you've corrected on your data on the system. I can typically spend hours understanding changes they've made from the previous year, but only ten minutes doing the return.

Cheers for this Jim. I'll get the calculator out later and make a note in the diary for the start date. The race is on 👍
