Cheryl, whilst I agree, I also know that for every registered and correct tradesperson there are 100 people who stepped off the plane with no technical ability who suddenly promote themselves as master builders!

The biggest issue legitimate trades suffer with is the costs for being legal push up the hourly rate. So, depending on what the task is, the 15-20€ per hour legitimate tradesperson cannot compete with the 6€ per hour bodgit & scarper trade wannabe.

So, something for everyone out there!

Also, remember, as the person hiring the trade, you become responsible if the trade person injures themselve on your property undertaking your task!

Totally, having run our own property maintenance business in the UK, we know exactly what you are talking about. You are also only responsible as the homeowner if you are negligent in some way as it is the tradesman's responsibility to do a risk assessment.

Hi Cheryl, apart from asking the tradesperson or service provider, how do you establish that their business is legal?

Thanks

Rhian

Hello Rhian, you need to make it clear from the start that you will be wanting a Factura, which will show IVA (tax) at 21%, you could also say you will want to see their insurance documents before they start work. It is illegal to pay for work costing more than €2.500 in cash.

Ok read and understood all comments , .I live in Petrer and totally reformed an old town house ,no water no bathroom no kitchen , and in general a mess , My body is to old for the cementing part ,...hard work , but I have always been handy , and can do most jobs decorate ,joinery , tiling ,etc . I don’t have any references , but do have a lot of experience under my belt , and can shows you hundreds of before and after pics of my house , or can show you the house itself , and you can make your own mind up of my capabilities . I live in Petrel ...10 mins from Monovar

If you re interested ,ask me , if I Can’t do the job , I will tell you , if I can , then I will at a reasonable rate

Thanks

Allan

Whatever you do, DO NOT use anyone that goes by the name of MARK WARD!

He is a complete conman who has not only ran off with our money but at least one other we know of!

He was recommended on this forum so be really careful.

I would say only go with personal recommendations and ask to see their work.

Hope this helps

Yep , you re something  ... one of a kind ! Mr super helpful , retired with good pension ,

no worries , including money !

Whereas I am a guy who has worked hard all my life , not retired , yet, struggling to make a living here , don’t need much , just enough to be reasonably comfortable . But can’t get it ...mm? Bit of a difference in our background , I think !

Now please go away and annoy somebody else ,

AND Have a nice day “Super Helpful “ and carry on being an ass
