3 Year Rabies Jab for dogs

I know the U.K. does a 3 year one however, I’m sure it’s an annual requirement in Spain.

We recently got a passport for our dog.  

The fact that she already had a rabies jab in the UK made no difference and every vet we tried said that the first injection would last for just one year - we tried four vets all of which were in the Javea area.

It’s after the first year there were differences.  Some insisted on annual injections whereas others, including the one we used, reverted to two years from the second vaccination onwards (I believe that some say three years but non of the vets we tried offered that)  

I don’t know if the different timescales is due to the type of vaccines used by different vets or just their own policies and I guess things could change again in the future. 

Once you have an EU passport make sure you don’t let a UK vet update it in any way as currently this will invalidate it.  Hopefully common sense prevails at some stage and this changes but for the time being only going to an EU vet for rabies boosters will keep your passport valid.  

I’m afraid I don’t know of a vet in the area you want, but down in the Villamartin area our vet now gives a three year rabies booster, when we queried this as the previous year it was only one year limits on rabies boosters.
He said that they are now giving a three year rabies boosters across all of Spain, whereas before it depended on what region you lived in.

We’re happy, but you’ll probably have to ask around to get an answer for your area.

My dogs and cats had a 3 year rabies jab on their UK passports but these became invalid after Brexit.  Moved them onto EU passports but had to have another rabies jab, valid for a year.  When the boosters were due again this year they now have 3 year ones again.
