Hello everyone

I’m totally devastated that my planned move to Spain (yesterday) has been delayed due to the coronavirus plus now the new variant of the coronavirus. This will mean I can’t get there before the end of Brexit.

Does anyone out there know if the Spanish authorities are making any allowances for Uk citizens who have been delayed ie allowing me to still get residency under the pre-brexit terms?

I have had a property lease for over a year if that helps.

If anyone can offer any advice I would be most grateful. Thank you so much.

Sue x

Ps: I forgot to mention that my partner was able to travel as he had the relevant documentation as his TIE application is already underway. We are both on the lease, have enough money in the bank etc. How soon can he return to collect me? Does he have to stay for a period of time before he can leave Spain to return to UK for a short stay just to sort things out here?

Due to the stress of all this I have had a full blown M.E relapse and couldn’t travel now until I fully recover.

Thank you in anticipation.   Merry Christmas everyone 🎅🏻

Sue x

The word which bothers me in your post is 'partner' because it has no meaning in law.

Were you married then if your husband were to acquire residence before 1.1.21 then you would be able to join him in Spain at a time of your choosing.

For the unmarried before Brexit Spain recognised long term partnerships between citizens of EU member states, after 1.1.21 however British citizens became non EU and that could change everything.

I would explain the whole matter to the nearest Spanish consulate and ask for a "Safe passage". It can and may help but in these days nobody knows what willl happen next. If you were successful please let me know TIA.

Firstly let me thank you for your kind reply, I am grateful for the response.

I just need to clarify that Jeff my partner is already in Spain so are you saying our long term relationship doesn’t count even though he is there pre-Brexit? Or is there the slightest bit of hope for me.......

I’ve tried to find this information out myself but have been so far unsuccessful and literally haven’t slept since 23rd!  I don’t want you to think I’m sitting back and expecting other people to do the work for me.

Thank you so much

Sue

Hello and thank you for your response.  I will certainly try the Spanish Consulate and hope they are not closed already for the holidays.

I will let you know how I get on. My grateful thanks once again.

Hello. I’m new to this site. I’m a holiday home owner in Spain. I decided against residency but I have been speaking to a really helpful company and they have a useful forum. They are

Spainishsolutions.net
Perhaps look them up. You might not be out of time. However you must have private health

Insurance and have about €18k in the bank. Speak to the experts but act quickly. All the best.

Hi there

I’m sorry I haven’t replied sooner to your post.

I’m here in Spain now but am still having problems with the residency issue. It appears the Spanish authorities will only accept my residency application if I am married.

So my partner and I will go to Gibraltar in September for a small ceremony and then apply.

This is not really what I wanted due to the expense and the fact we’re both retired. Feel a bit silly getting married at our age!!

Thanks to you and every one else for their kind responses.
