We recently opened an account with Banco Sabadell.

We went in person with passports (we also already had NIE numbers from the Consulate in London) and our Spanish solicitor although the lady at Sabadell (in Javea) spoke very good english.

We gave her  €200 cash to open the account and set up internet banking there and then.

Costs of the account are €35 per quarter.

Lots of paperwork to sign but in and out within 30 minutes. Online account works easily from the UK.

Hope that helps

Many thanks. How do you apply for NIE in London? I have been reading about it.

I would rather do it here.

Thanks for your help.

If you pm me your e-mail address I'll forward you the mail I got from the Spanish Consulate it has details of the forms you have to fill in (with a helpful guide in English) plus the links to the appointment website where you'll have to go to get set up for the appointment.

Its very painless .. half of the forms go in the bin but make sure you take them with you along with your passports.

Edit to add I don't think the NIE is a requirement to open an account (anyone correct me if I am wrong) but as we knew we'd need them to buy a house we got them anyway.
