All banks charge a yearly fee with some offering free banking if you take out insurance or have other products with them. Your best option is to ask at the banks you are interested in.

Depends on if you're resident or not and the bank, of course.

We are residents with Caixa. We need 300 euro a month pensions paid in, at least 2 direct debits a year, at least 3 purchases on the credit card per quarter. We've never had insurances with them or anything else and never paid any charges at all except for a 20 euro annual charge for a second debit card. We no longer have the debit card and use the credit card instead.

I believe it it's not pensions or disability/unemployment benefits then the requirements include 700 euro a month.

Thank you, I do have building and contents with this bank but I don't think I'll qualify for free banking because I'm not regularly transferring funds to the Spanish account, thanks again for your help,

Regards Michael.

Have you considered a Wise online account? It only takes a few minutes to open one.

A lot of people use them as they are free and widely accepted for paying utilities direct debits and transferring money etc.

You can do all that with an online banking account that uses a EU IBAN such as Wise. Quite a few accounts you can open where they will pay direct debits and allow you to draw cash.

If you have a Cajamar bank in Oliva, go in and ask about their wferrent account. 4yrs as non residents and still not paid 1cent in fees. I know they, ve changed some conditions since we opened ours but the "weferrent" account in an online account pays direct debits, free cash from their atms, no monthly deposit conditions and no FEES!  Must set up in branch.

Regards

Pauline
