Hi Kathy,

My friends are in your situation.  They moved to Spain a couple of months ago with their UK mobiles.  They've switched to Spanish SIM cards and use Google Chromecast, downloaded onto their phones, in order to 'cast' (play) from their Netflix account onto their TV via their phones. ...

... I've tried it too and it's surprisingly easy to do (but note that this is for Android phones, rather than Apple):

Kind regards,

Kim

Where we live we have no wifi and because we are only renting for a short while do not want a landline fitted. We are using our UK mobiles for the internet but want to buy a Spanish simcard. We are not ver savvy with technology but in a nutshell will only be using the Spanish one for the internet...

... but do want to be able to log onto Netflix as the tv is  only Spanish. Can anyone advise on the best way and if there are any English speaking phone companies in Oliva or Gandia

Hi , I have a home in palmera I don’t visit as much as I should for obvious reasons, I got some type of digital box for English tv from a chat in oliva , however I’ve not set up as yet but you require WiFi dongle pay as you go I believe, hope this is any help to you .

Thanks we bought a 4g router as advised but cannot get that to work.  Think the internet signal is very poor here.  Any advice would be appreciated

Many thanks

Kath

Hi Kath.Myself and my wife run an internet company in Ireland, we visited Oliva in the summer, and of course couldn't help looking around at what wireless internet companies were operating there. The problem with using a 4G data sim and modem is that often there is a cap on the amount of data you can download. This is not usually the case for 'wireless' providers. If you look up at the rooftops of your neighbours you may notice that some have small white dishes or panels (the dishes are about the size of a dinner plate). They generally point to a high spot or high building in the town - ask them who they use. In the meantime, you could try bringing the 4G modem you bought upstairs to the highest point with a clear view around (or place it on the top floor windowsill, experiment with different windows) Test it using a tablet or laptop connected to it but in the same room as the 4G modem. If you get it working satisfactorily you will then need to get the internet downstairs. The best way is to connect it with an Ethernet 'cat5e' cable, but if this is not practical, you could buy a pair of 'powerline extenders' like the TP Link AV600 kit or similar. (Google the for your nearest shop). I hope that helps
