Short stays in Spain, less than 6 months

We do not have residence here, however we pay our tax for property, we have registered on Padron and hold SIP cards. I understand that we should report to a Police Station and register our presence before 3 month period of our stay. Has anyone already done this and could you advise what is involved, which documents need to be supplied etc. Any advise would be most helpful.
