I noticed that obtaining residency in Spain has changed and proof of income is now required before they will issue a residency card. Is there a way around this? For example, would a bank statement showing a certain sum of money be accepted?
I would imagine that many people have had to leave their jobs to relocate to Spain so how can they be expected to show a regular income if they are still of working age?

I don't know what the police are currently requesting in Valencia province, but in Alicante it's either €900 a month or a bank balance of €7000, in a Spanish bank, over a three month period.

Definitely not. Just think of all the non-resident property owners who have bank accounts.
You may be thinking of the NIE. Some banks will let you open an account without an NIE, but they need an NIE number before they do their annual report to the tax authorities.

€7000 balance for over 3 months plus regular outgoings on top of that is sufficient. Although Jim suggests OR €900 a month, that won’t do unless you have a job contract :)

OR €900 a month refers principally to those people in receipt of regular income like a pension.

Yes you are right Jim, just thought I’d mention as OP said he was still of working age. I wanted to comment as for me , I have over 2k coming in every month paying for rent, etc but needed to have 14k balance on top of that for myself and my daughter :)
