Does anyone know if there are currently any grants for installing solar panels on a house? Also, is there a feed in tariff if excess goes into the grid? Looked online and can’t find much info. Thanks.

I'm amazed we don't see solar panels on more Properties, we are constantly being told we need to replace oil, gas, coal with renewables yet Spain does not seem to make use of the free sunshine.

Hi TP20,

I expect that, in a large part, it's because of the so-called "Sunshine Tax" that the previous right-wing PP government imposed on self-sufficient consumers because they were, in effect, "depriving power companies of income".  Consumer generators were also obliged to give their surplus energy to the grid free of charge!  Thankfully, since the left-wing PSOE came to power, it was abolished in 2018 and there has been a surge in uptake.  The new white boxes that developers are building typically have solar panels as standard.

Kind regards,

Kim

Grants are available.  Iberdrola are installing my solar panels and managing the grant application on my behalf.  If lucky you can  get upto 40% of cost.  Iberdrola also connect you to grid network and purchase back from you excess you put into grid.  My neighbour pays on average 5 - 10 euros a month electric bill.  He has solar panels installed by Iberdrola

That sounds great. I’ll have a look at their website.

If you pay tax in Spain ie submit a renta every year then you can claim for 40% of the cost not including the iva- maximum price you can claim is 8k€ so max amount you would receive back would be €3200 this is a lengthy process and takes minimum of 18 months. As a non tax payer in Oliva you can get a discount on your IBI bill, check with them for details. Any good company - I used Solar in Spain do all the paperwork for you
