Where not to buy electricals or anything mechanical

We bought an electrical item from a Chinese operated large store in Piles which was undoubtedly and irrefutably faulty.  We returned it to the store the next day with the receipt.  They confirmed it did not function but were not willing due to their store policy to give us a refund.  Surely in this European country with consumer rights this is illegal?  Please correct me if I am wrong. Lesson learned - don’t buy from that large store again 🤷‍♀️

This is the same with ALL Chinese stores.  You will NEVER get them to return money, it's in their psyche.

Moral of the story be careful what you buy from their stores and never buy electrical items as I have had two catch fire over the years and they were not overloaded.

They are completely unaware of any National Standards the might apply to anything.  Just treat it all as cr**ap and be prepared for it to fail.

Most of all, NEVER buy a charger of any sort and be careful of anything with lithium batteries as we have all seen what can happen.

Here speaks the voice of experience.

Thanks for that.  I wasn’t aware of the dangers so even more reason not to buy in fact I’ve decided to boycott these stores altogein future.  Do you know if they are breaking any European consumer rights laws?

Sorry Jasmine but I am not a legal boffin, but I'm sure that before tonight is out someone will have answered your question.
If push came to shove, suing one of these Chinese places would be an impossibility because they change ownership every six months to avoid paying 'rates'.  That way they are always a start up business and can get a rebate or zero rates for the first six months. They are incredibly devious and dealing with them is like pushing water up hill!!!!

Sadly there is nothing like the Consumer or Sale of Goods Act in Spain.  In my experience you forget it, move on and not go back.

Wow!  Thanks CM that’s so interesting.  I had no idea such a situation existed.  It is quite outrageous .  I’m very glad of my boycott.  Thanks very much for that.

In case anyone is wondering my comments are based on personal experiences over a number of years.

Most people seem to have had similar problems.

You just have to accept that it's cheap and cheerful and probably won't last long. Then you don't get too upset.
