Good Evening.

We live on a urbanisation of quad houses. We have a pellet burner and have 2 air vents at the back of the chimney as it cools the fan. The neighbours at the far side had a log burner fitted last year the fumes from there burner are coming into our pantry were the vents are. The neighbour had the company out they put a smoke bomb down (we didnt see it ) and none came into our pantry, I suggested to them to put the fire on with in 25 mins we could smell the fumes. The guy from the company just said block the air vents up and it will  be okay. But we have been told the vents are there for a reason.  Our neighbours are now saying it's a problem with our air vents.

If anyone could give us advise as we dont want to have this all through the winter.

There chimney doesn't back onto ours. Our Air vents are behind our chimney in our pantry which was checked by someone to make sure they were correct & we have to have the air vent by regulations. There chimney is supposed to be lined to the top but it isn't but the installer is telling the neighbours that its lined right & it's our air vents that are fitted wrong.

Hi Lorraine,

not sure how to resolve the situation with your neighbour but one thing you might want to consider is a carbon monoxide detector. We have a log burner in the UK and have a detector, it has never been triggered but a good safety feature.

It's unlikely that the fumes from next doors log burner would cause you problems but just in case.

Rgds,

Aitch.

Hi, good luck with getting the situation resolved through the authorities,

One other thing you might look at is a air vent that can be closed. I did this to cover our air vents, to keep out drafts on the coldest days in winter. I got  the vents from Leroy Merlin in La Zenia. I fitted a small frame around the existing vents to and screwed the closing vents to that, made it easier to fit.
