Renting advice

Hi, I'm moving to Spain in the next couple weeks and looking to rent initially. I have a job in Torrevieja and looking to move to the Orihuela Costa or Cabo Roig area around 28th August, after training gonna month in Malaga.
I found the idealista site which has some good properties with agencies and private landlords and just want to ask what to look out for with each? Are deposits safe with them both? Any legal stuff I need to know?
It's hard as I'm trying to do it all from the UK and even when I'm training won't get much time to get to the area for viewings so want to avoid any mistakes if possible.
