Hi there,

Newbie here making first post so please be kind.

We recently bought a place in San Bartolome, just outside Orihuela and I'm flying out from Manchester in mid Jan to rendezvous with the Satellite installer.

Obviously we're going to need a telly, so I was wondering if any of you good people could recommend a decent shop in the general area with a variety of options.

Would I be best heading to one of the larger urbanizations like Ciudad Casada or into Torrevieja?

Thanks in advance,

Stan. (Not my real name but it was too good a pun to ignore.)

Pete's given excellent advice, and I can only add to it a little by virtue of local knowledge, as I only live a couple of Ks from San Bartolome.

MediaMarkt have a large range, but I prefer to use Tien21 wherever possible, as I can't fault the service they've given us. There are two in Almoradi, and I always go to the one on 'furniture road' - the road leading from Almoradi to Dolores. Click 'Mostrar en el mapa' on the first result on this:

Hi Pete,

Thanks so much for the advice. I'll definitely follow your advice and go for a "no name" TV, as blowing big cash on a TV which (for now at least) will only get used for 7 or 8 weeks of the year makes no sense.

Interestingly, we popped into the Tien21 in Orihuela last week and picked up a radio fairly cheaply so they were already on our radar but they only had one enormous TV in the shop and it was up for about 1200 Euros! I wouldn't pay that for a TV at home!

Anyway, as I said, great advice and thanks very much.

Stan (actually Dave.)

Hi Jim and thanks for your invaluable advice too.

If I'd have fathomed out how replies appear on here, I'd have consolidated both posts into one reply but as I said, I'm new and still learning!

And you're right about the service in Tien21. The guy in the shop spoke poco Ingles and I only have basic Espanol for now but he was very friendly and even threw in a free calendar with our radio.

Thanks again guys.

Dave.

Cheers Fpegman.

I'll make that my first call when I get to San Bartolome as I know exactly where you mean.

Cheers again guys.

And while I'm on, any recommendations for internet providers? I think there's a phone line installed in the apartment but I wouldn't swear to it.

Cheers.

Going from San Bartolome, Carrefour isn't on the roundabout going into Orihuela. It's of the road going from Orihuela to Bigastro.

There are lots of low cost internet providers, as you'll have seen if you browsed the forum, but if you've got a landline then think about Movistar.

We pay €55 a month for internet, landline and two mobiles. There are obviously some restrictions, but we're quite happy with Movistar. A friend who lives in El Baden has tried other providers, but had problems with all of them and ended up moving back to Movistar.

In my opinion, this is one of those instances where you get what you pay for.
