Hello

Do I need to exchange my UK driving licence for Spanish one?   Also read about a medical, what do I have to do.

Hope all well and safe.

Hi,

It's a very simple progress which I've done a couple of times myself.

Go to the headers at the top of the forum page, tap on Jim's guides and scroll down to the relevant information. He's a very helpful guy and his guides are invaluable. Better than any "bar room expert" lol!

There are specific medical centres in most medium and big towns which do the medicals for the driving licence.

It's nothing to worry about if you have normal health. Usually it just involves a simple console test like a child's computer game where you manouvre a cursor along a moving road, to test your co-ordination and reactions. That's followed by a quick medical check up and simple eye test by a doctor. It's almost a formality, and you walk out with the certificate you need for the traffic department.

I have just done medical and did not have to do console test probably because of the current virus state.

I suspect like many things the test varies depending on where you sit it.

Up here near Denia I used a driving school in Ondara for the whole process - they sent my paperwork to Traffico and my licence was sent to my home address within 6 weeks. You need to provide your own photos usually.

The medical was a hoot. The assistant asked me if my eyesight was good and I said yes it was. She asked me to look at an optical chart on the wall and said ok, read that. I read the first two lines very quickly, eg H C V X, Y B A D and she stopped me going any further. She then asked me to look at a page in a brochure of different shapes. She gave me Lego style bits and asked me to make the shape she had pointed to. I did it in about 10 seconds. She said great you've passed, pay at the desk.

It's a money making enterprise. You would have to be Stevie Wonder on crutches to fail.

Ps the Traffico bit is probably the most difficult for Brits exchanging who want to complete the process themselves....

In total, I paid 105 Euros, worth it to me at least not to have to travel from Denia to Traffico in Alicante and queue up for another exercise in bureaucracy !
