I have just received a nice Christmas present from DGT. It was delivered today by post to my home in the UK.

It was a speeding fine of 300€ for doing 125km/h in a 90km/h limit on the A-70P Km 27.3. on the 9th November this year, Which I think is somewhere near Alicante. I was driving my UK registered Ford Transit van.

The letter states that if I pay within 20 days of receiving the letter the fine is reduced by 50%. Is the amount of the fine correct? I am rather peeved as I did my best to observe the limits having driven from Bilbao to Pilar de la Horadada and back.

Has anyone else been fined for speeding in this region?

I haven't been fined but the amount looks correct.

Thanks for that information. The letter doesn't mention points. Maybe they save them for if I ever get a Spanish driving licence which I think will be never. I hope I haven't any more of these delights to come as half the time I had no idea what the speed limit was!

In your first post you claim "I did my best to observe the limits" then you say "half the time I had no idea what the speed limit was"!

On that basis who knows how many other fines might be heading your way?

You should be able to pay the fine here https://sedeclave.dgt.gob.es/IWPS5/help/sincertificado_en.html and it should tell you whether it's the full €300 or 50%.

There will be no points involved, there is no system for awarding or deducting points for foreign driving licence holders.

Thanks for your reply and that is what I am thinking "how many more fines are heading my way". Obviously I kept to the limit when i could see it clearly posted but there were times it wasn't marked and as I was on a motorway I thought it was 120Km/h. I have paid the fine online after much difficulty. There are several glitches in the DGT website. One being, every time I tried to type in the document reference it automatically tried to fill in my credit card number! I also had to put my laptop on Spanish time and not put a zero in front of the date. E.g. 9 & not 09 for the 9th November. I got there after about 2 hours and it automatically gave me the 50% discount. It still hurt though. They must do very well on that particular stretch where ever it was! That was my first speeding fine for about 30 years!

Have a look at the N332 website as it deals with anything to do with driving in Spain.   It is for English speaking people and has an English version of the Spanish equivalent of the Highway Code on it.   The site, and their Facebook page, is run in collaboration with officers of the Guardia Civil as the Trafico Department is part of their force.

It WAS on a motorway . The Spanish police would be better occupied educating drivers how to enter and exit a roundabout and point out there is a little stick on the steering column that operates the indicators. Happy New Year to you.
