Hi all

Apologies if this has been asked before. I’m

New to the forum and I’m at the research stage of moving to Spain. Has anyone compiled a kind of check list of all the paperwork etc that you need to attend to to live in Spain ?

This would likely be invaluable to me anyway, benefitting from people who have actually been through the transition?

I’m researching but seems like a lot to think about.

Thanks

Jayne

Off the top of my head, and in no particular order:

Resident bank account.

If bringing a British car, transfer it to Spanish plates. Otherwise buy a car, and make sure the dealer does the transfer to your name.

Change to Spanish driving license.

Health cover - S1 from DWP Newcastle if you qualify, or full-cover private health insurance.

Change utility bills to your name, and I recommend registering for online access.

Insurances as appropriate for car and property.

Check if you need to change your electricity supply to a different plan and/or power rating.

Landline, mobile and internet supply.

NIE.

Register on the padrón.

Register for a residency certificate.

Decide how you want to get UK TV.

Register with Agencia Tributaria for tax purposes.

Modelo 720 declaration of overseas assets if you have such assets that need declaring.

Spanish will.

Hi Jayne

Jim regularly provides very informative and helpful information, he is a fountain of knowledge regarding the Costa Blanca region! If you go on the search box and type in “Jim’s Guide to” you will see a long list of guides that Jim has posted - have a look through these, you will find invaluable advice and guidance on a side range of topics!

You can get someone here to help you with all this for a reasonable price. I tried to go it alone and struggled so I ended up using Uma at getlegalinspain and she took the stress out of everything as you can pick and choose which services you want. She can also give a lot of information about the buying process and traps to avoid. All I had to do was meet Uma at the relevant time and place, with the documentation she requested (with multiple copies) and that was that.

Also, have a search on this site for "Jim's Guides" which will help you no end with all manner of things. N332.es is a good site for driving in Spain and just to let you know that tolls will be removed from the AP7 soon so the N332 should see quite a reduction in traffic.

We are all here to help and whatever happens with Brexit, the sun will usually be shining here.

Thank You very much ..... I’m at the research stage, looking at buying or renting, working or not, jobs, documents, driving, tax  ... it seems a bit of a minefield but this is an excellent tool for getting a wealth of knowledge from people who know.

I expect I ll turn into a pest lol 😆

Thanks again

How good is your info about the tolls on AP7? There have been lots of rumours about this for a few years now. The last I heard was that the Regional Gov passed a resolution to close them, but that it was a National decision and nowt would come of it. It would be great if they did close, but they are a huge source of income..........
