Hi We have a house in rellau and thinking about moving permanently. I have a 4 year old who has just started school in UK. Is there a school in rellau and what age do they start. Does anyone know if there are many English children , or any advice regarding schooling will be appreciated. Does anyone have any experience with visas and getting a working visa ? What the best route is and any recommendations for support with the process

I'm sorry but I can't help you with information regarding schooling for your child but unless you, or your partner, have an EU passport (Irish?) you will find it very difficult to get a working visa for Spain.

If you have an EU passport then things are a little easier.

I assume you are a UK citizen and it will depend on what passport you hold. If you have a UK passport you will, I'm afraid, find it almost impossible to get a work visa unless you are in a highly skilled job where there are shortages. These are normally medical personnel, high end IT personnel, experts in export management etc.

To get a work visa you will require a solid job offer with a contract which has been verified by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign affairs. The future employer must certify that the work was offered to EU citizens but could not be filled. If you do get that you can apply in UK for a work visa at a Spanish consulate. You cannot come to Spain without that visa except for tourism which limits you to 90 days in every 180.

EU citizens, including Irish passport holders, do not need a work permit and can move to Spain to find employment.

I don't know Relleu so can't advise on schooling. But primary school starts at age 5 and is compulsory from aged 6 and there are pre schools which are available from age 3 if there are vacancies. Most children do get places at aged 3 or 4 but it is not compulsory.

Hi, thank you for quick reply. If I came on a NLV for first year then was able to find work am I right in thinking I could then change to a working visa

Yes. you can come on an NLV and won't be able to work for the first year but can apply, in Spain, to change it to a work permit after the first year.

Do you know the requirements for getting an NLV? You need to show an income of €28,800 per year for the first applicant and €7,200 for each other member of your household although not sure about a 4 year old. You also need private medical insurance which gives you cover at least equal to the Spanish NHS with no co-payments.

Once you find work with a contract your social security payments will cover everyone in your household for medical cover.

Best of luck.

Is that realistic though?

It won't change the fact that any prospective employer would still have to show that they had tried but failed to find an EU citizen to fill the position.

The reason you can apply after 1 year is that you are then classed as temporary resident in a EU country so can be offered work. According to several legal sites you can apply to change your NLV for a work visa as a EU resident, albeit temporary. Just like you can apply for the convenio especial after 1 year.

If on an NLV or student visa you can apply to change it to a work permit if;

You can prove 1 year legal residency in Spain

A firm job offer with contract for more than 1 year and offering a salary equal to or higher than the minimum wage in Spain.

Apply using the Form Ex-03

Hi,

I spoke to someone from a care company, as they have alot of vacancies that are not filled and are always advertised this could be an option as I have all the qualifications. I would need to be living there before I could have interview. Thanks for your replies, appreciated. We have the funds for NLV

Hi

Does anyone know if any of the pubs/restaurants in or around Relleu do christmas dinner ?

Also where do you go with small children to celebrate halloween ?
