Hola

we love coming to Rojales but its sometimes difficult to get dates and information from the town hall!

Can anyone help us understand dates for Moors & Christians for this year and next, so we can book flights to coincide with these key fiestas and others?

Thank you

Mark

In Rojales, the fiesta normally start the first week in June and runs into the Moors and Christians so those battles, parades, cheering and throwing things are the end of June beginning of July depending on when weekends are (the last bit over the last weekend).

Looking at the calendar, the fiesta celebrates the patron saint, San Pedro, this year on the 29th June which is a Thursday. That means the Moors and Christians will be the following weekend of July 1 and 2.

Part of the fiesta is the chupinazo where they all attack each other with water and hand out free water pistols for you to join in. This year it looks like June 11th when that starts and they suggest you wear bathers. Around about 11 to 11:30 am.

Once everyone is thoroughly wet, the mayor then comes and sets of the chupinazo, a big rocket, and they hand out free beer plus straw hats to the kids. Then, around 2pm, go to the riverbank and watch the daytime fireworks. When they end, that is officially the start of the fiestas.

These dates are fairly provisional and haven't yet been announced by the ayuntamiento but look on their facebook page for dates and times nearer the date but those should give you some idea of when to visit.

Hello

Do you know the route of the parade please? Just an idea of where it starts and which direction. We've been at the end of a parade before and it's made for a very late night! Thanks x

Starts from the medical centre in Rojales proceeds to and crosses the bridge down to the town centre and turns left disbanding not long after.

As Marcliff says, the fiestas are based around the patron saint of Rojales , San Pedro, whose day is June 29th with the moors & Christians parades on the following Saturday & Sunday.

Next year the Saints day is a Saturday, so I would expect the parades to be the following weekend of Sat 6th & Sun 7th.

The fiestas start in the middle of June with the Chupinazo, celebration rocket, and water battle in the town centre which I guess will be June 15th.

Thank you very much Marcliff   I will double check the dates but I think your dates might be a liittle out as June 29 is a Saturday, so the 1st and 2nd July are a Monday and Tuesday....  At least you have been very helpful in pointing me in the right direction. I am guessing the Thursday in question for 2024 will be June27 and the Moors and Christians weekend will then be June 29&30   Thanks again for the information...

You asked for dates for both 2023 and 2024. Marcliff replied to you earlier on in the year so gave you the dates for 2023.

Martin gives you the artist gives you what he expects the dates will be for 2024. So the Moors & Christians will follow the patron saints day. Although Martin’s guess of 6 /7  July is probably 99.9% accurate, the ayuntamiento never release the dates until a few weeks before the event, .

But there are always plenty of other fiestas within a 30 minute drive at that time of the year
