Hi, yesterday we had our appointment at Alicante to renew our NLV for the next 2 years, our first year card expired on 1 July and it has taken 5 months for an appointment, just to let members know the charge for the card has recently increased to 19.50 euros so we had to go to the BBBV bank in Alicante and pay 3 euros, they then gave us the form back and we returned to the immigration office to complete, the staff were very apologetic to the increase that we had to pay and the inconvenience of going to the bank as due to no fault on our part as it was caused by the delay in processing our renewal. We now have to wait 5 weeks for our 2 year card,in total we have lost a potential of 7 months of our card which has caused us problems with the bank. Traveling to UK we have had to have our passports stamped in and out instead of showing a card and going through. We have one more renewal to do and will jump through the hoops as at the end of the day our life in Spain was our goal and will not let Brexit or bureaucracy stop us.

I thought the rules, which some are only just catching up on, meant you had to have your passport stamped in and out until you were granted permanent residency after 5 years. That way they can check on how long you are out of Spain in the first 5 years.

I know some have had them stamped and some haven't so it seems the border guards aren't fully up to date on the system yet.

...

Are these new rules just for the NLV temporary TIE cards? or are they supposed to apply to all temporary TIE cards (withdrawal terms)?

Always shown my temporary TIE and have never had a stamp.

Not applicable if you received one under the withdrawal agreement. Different rules apply for those as UK was still in the EU. Only applies to those getting the NLV.

It's why you don't have to re apply to extend the TIE nor do you have to apply to change to a permanent TIE as it is not necessary under the withdrawal agreement but you do have to at certain points with the NLV.
