The Rastro that was held on Sundays is still suspended and will not take place until further notice

The Rastro, which until before the declaration of the State of Alarm took place on Sundays in the La Noria de Salinas industrial estate, does not have a specific return date planned, and will wait until the end of summer to study the situation and observe the evolution of the situation. health crisis caused by COVID-19 in our country and in our province.

Once the situation is studied, the situation of this market will be determined and it will be reported through the media in which we are present about its possible opening.

Thank you

It seems that the organisers have had no end of problems and obstacles put in their way so that they never open again. It was becoming a bit of a risk, not just for the crowds just before the pandemic and lots of stolen tools mainly being sold on the stalls. Pickpockets were also in abundance. Let’s say that, from what I hear, the council made the organisers jump through hoops with conditions to abide by that no other market has had to deal with.

They had to get Porta-loos, make sure smallholders had permission to be street traders and so on.

So what started as a great idea became something to avoid, despite the hard work of the organisers and the legit stallholders.

I heard the matter went to court and that the council won. I don’t think the Salinas market will ever take place again in my lifetime 😢.

Thank you for the update but what a shame 😥.

Is there anything similar in the area?

Nothing near the size of the Salinas market but Yecla market on a Sunday morning only, Villena market on Thursday mornings or you could try the Rastro in Caudete, open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 2pm. This is a real Rastro with nearly new furniture, clothes, make up, bags, paintings and so much more. This is inside a warehouse and there is a cafeteria serving a full English breakfast, etc. Also U.K. food on sale.  Lots of English & Spanish stallholders.

Look for me there!
