We have bought an off plan apartment in San Miguel. I have heard that furniture is more expensive in Spain so we are thinking of purchasing furniture in the UK and transporting to Spain. Has anyone experience of this and can give an estimate of the cost to transport eg
6 single beds plus mattresses,
Garden dining furniture for 6 people
Garden sofa & coffee table plus 4 sun loungers & parasol

I'd suggest you check the price of the type of furniture you want in Spain, rather than rely on hearsay that it's more expensive than in the UK. My experience is that there is a much wider choice in Spain and so a much wider range of prices. It's not easy to find much information online though, so it would be best to visit some furniture stores in person, then you could check prices against UK prices online if you want to. Checking the price of appliances online in Spain is easy, but I think you will find these are more or less the same.
I certainly wouldn't want the cost and hassle of shipping new furniture from the UK, especially with the uncertainty of customs charges.
There are many places here that do good quality furniture for reasonable prices. If you ship from UK and you are not changing residency you may be liable for customs charges. The shipping company would need to complete the relevant customs forms and pay any dues before bringing it in.
Also any goods less than 6 months old will be subject to higher import duty.
You are moving to San Miguel. There are many good, and reasonable, furniture stores in Torrevieja who will deliver for free. For example, look at the catalogues from Hernanos Garcia which has 3 shops and free delivery or Conforama in Zenia Boulevard which does charge for delivery.

Many of them are starting their sales next week and if you go to Almoradi you will astounded at the number of furniture stores competing against each other.
Plus most will deliver in a day or two as opposed to waiting weeks and weeks in UK
In answer to your question, removals companies work on cubic metres, so work out the cubic meterage of the goods you want transporting and contact a couple of removals companies. We used White and Company, who were excellent and have depots throughout the UK. However, what we paid per m3 2 years ago will have increased no doubt due to fuel and associated transport cost rising.
They will give you an accurate costing.
