Is Santa Pola too quiet to live on a full-time basis?

Hello Everyone,

I am planning to move to Santa Pola very near future for its climate but fear I may miss the UK eventually. Santa Pola seems very, very quiet.

Is having a better climate worth the sacrifice of the familiar?

Does the novelty of the climate wear off  and have you become home sick after some time? I have known the to happen who move to quiet parts of Queensland, which are sleepy little towns.

How easy it is to meet expats in the Santa Pola area?

Is Santa Pola a town on the quiet side, perhaps for someone living there full time.

That's a good question. My post is an edited version of a longer post on why I chose Santa Pola, saying I was open to any suggestions of anything more suitable.

Can you suggest something a little more going on than in Santa Pola, other than Benidorm, with an expat community?

not far from santa pola is the urbanization la marina i have lived here for 10 years and i dont regret a single moment.

santa polar is a nice spanish town and nice to visit, but la marina is a big urb.full of full time brits and others, its nice to mix with spanish cos they are lovely people but expat community is safety in numbers,we have loads of friends who would (and do) help at the drop of a hat...............plus properties are cheaper here as is the cost of living.

Hi, we live in Gran Alacant ten minutes from Alicante airport and under the auspices of Santa Pola. We live in Puerto Marino which is just off N332 an area within Gran Alacant there are communal pools in abundance as well as private villas with their own pools, we have th GA Centre which has shops, bars and restaurants in abundance a road train down to the award winning beaches approx 5 mins by car.  There are lots of different areas within Gran Alacant some between here and the beaches and some very near the beaches and look over Alicante Bay.  We are approx ten mins maximum by car from Santa Pola which is a lovely town, very Spanish, coastal and again an abundance of shops, bars and restaurants and a market too.  I would suggest a trip over here to see the area, lots of rentals about of which I may be of help, we have lived in Spain 10 years now and always rented as we cannot make our mind up where we want to be, we have lived in Altea Hills, Already and then around this area, including Los Montesinos, Oasis La Marina and more, I Can highly recommend it, pm me if you want more info. Regards  Angie

Thank you for your helpful reply. Much appreciated.  From what you have had to say, it sounds like you have the best of both worlds. Very encouraging to think that you have never looked back. Just the sort of encouragment I was looking for. In the end, it will be what I make of it but hearing that you enjoy being in La Marina, it can work for me too, if I try.

Hello Angie, Thank you for your detailled reply. I appreciate the thought you put into it as everything you said was very helpful. I will visit every town that is recommended via this forum. So far, Gran Alacant, La Marina, Queseda before deciding where to settle. Several people have described Santa Pola as very Spanish, in the sense that there are few foriegners there. My preference would be to be amond both Spanish and but with an expat majority and Gran Alacant ticks that box.  Good to hear that you have lived in the area for 10 and still enjoying it.

Thank you. Have seen pictures of Quesada and it looks flat and expanse. Geographically speaking, they are my favourite feature for a terrain. Nothing too hilly or mountainous. I like that it is "great, all year 'round". Not much information on Wiki with regards to the breakdown of its population (or any information for that matter) but it the size of it seems ideal. Will definately check it out and go for the day to get a feel. Thank you again.

Quesada,La Marina,Gran Alacant are all year round urbs,so it would be a matter of personal choice.La Marina offers more value for money ie cheaper properties etc. but at end of day take your time look around and dont rush into anything.
