I have yet to find any paperwork that is recommended for DIY transfers only listed paperwork for professional Couriers. I also can't understand why any courier is advising clients they will be charged duties when changing residency when proof of residencia should get that client tax exemption as previously stated. Have your deeds to prove you have a 2nd home, list of items with values and it's a 50/50 chance whether you will get through as we did without any charge. My list only totalled €390 (below the duty free allowance of €430 when travelling by air or sea). Road travellers have a smaller allowance. Both UK and Spanish websites don't have sufficient info when moving your own belongings. I suspect if we go by van we will be asked to confirm a declaration the goods are not commercial and only for personal use but I, ll take a chance on duties. By car however it would be hard to exceed the €430 allowance on used goods so you should be OK(unless your items are gold plated). If any of my info has been helpful please register that via the helpful button.

So do I not need to contact customs if my furniture is under £430 . If my partner with me is that £860. Do I just list products incase I get stopped.

Thanks for your help .

That's correct, each person has a €430 allowance. List in Spanish with values as well as in English. If taking food, no meats, or dairy products, tea is ok though. I took loads of packet sauce mixes, pickles and chutneys. He didn't even look.

We have friends recently moved over permanently and to get their used furniture and belongings over it cost them €800!

If they showed their residencia and padron they shouldn't have been charged if within 12 months of dated residencia. I would suggest they ask their solicitor how they can apply for refund.

Hi,

we are moving over to the Costa Blanca in late March and have been told to expect a charge of around 600 euros for our 'sticks' by our professional removal company.

Cheers.

mdh.

If you have your Residencia/TIE and proof of padron you should not be charged. Consult your courier again. He should be asking for those proofs and fill in extra customs forms.

So dont need to contact customs .

Sorry just double checking.

Just do a self made inventory of goods your taking . Just drive through and this is just in case you get stopped.

Thanks in advance

Hi everyone. I’m hoping someone can give me some first hand experience. I have friends who are driving down in their car, via Ferry to Santander, at the beginning of June.

They are bringing a lot of stuff from their Uk home as they now live here permanently. Does anyone know whether they have to complete customs paperwork, and if so, where they can find it. Also, whether they’ll have to pay any sort of duty to bring it in, as it’s their own, used, personal belo...

...ngings. It’s not a van, so just what will go in a standard car.

Any advice would be very welcome, as they are getting worried about this part of the journey. Many thanks.

Hi I’ve just returned from the Uk travelling from Portsmouth to Santander arrived in Santander on Saturday 12 Feb, my car was full to the roof with items, we were not pulled over nor did we have to fill in any forms associated with customs.
