Good morning

We will shortly be applying for our NLV.

We understand that we will not be allowed to work in the first year of application.   Does this mean we can work in years 2,3,4 and 5, and if so does it have to be in Spain or UK?

Any advice or links will be greatly appreciated.

best regards

Linda

You can apply to change the NLV to a work visa after one year of residency. You will need a definite work contract and a job offer to be able to do this but the employer will not need to prove the work was offered to a EU citizen. This visa will still need renewing at the same points as the NLV showing you still have a contract. The advantage is that you will be paying social security (as well as income tax) which will cover you and your household for medical care.

The work visa is for Spain. Other visas for remote work outside Spain include the digital nomad visa but you can get that without getting an NLV first but must prove you have  been employed in that type of role previously.
