Murphy22, to expand on what Pacoboy has said, and using the figures for last year:

If you're over 65 but less than 75, the personal allowance is €6700.

There's an additional allowance of €2000.

There's a variable allowance which depends on how much income you have, and last year this varied from zero up to €3700.

Tax starts at 19.5%.

I've still not got confirmation of all the figures applicable to tax returns due in this year, but the variable allowance is changing, and the €2000 allowance may (?) be included in this change.

I'll be posting full details after the tax return system goes live in April.

My parents moved out at 65 and have met so many friends, a popular spot for friends to come visit and it’s close enough for trips home. My Mum also has so must more mobility in her hands and fingers with her arthritis since moving.

I agree with these comments.  We moved here in October and have never felt so cold. I work from home at a pc all day and I joke to my UK colleagues that I have to go outside to warm up.  Spanish homes just aren't build for the cold.  BUT saying this the weather has been brilliant during the day so I am NOT complaining.

We are renting for at least 2 years to ensure we buy at the right place.  You can get cheap rentals if you look for them (even with 3 dogs).  I would advise doing this rather than plough all your money into a home you may struggle to re-sell.  Rent and take the time to speak to people and look at the areas.  We have heard horror stories from Brits who have brought out here and lost a lot of money or brought in the wrong place and have struggled to re-sell.  Rent first would be my top tip.  We have learnt so much in the 4 months we've been here and so glad we didn't buy immediately.  And still learning.

We have found these forums a life saver and so full of great feedback from Brits.  A great source of info.

Good luck.
