I wonder if  Santander in England provide such a service?. Also, can they arrange transferring Direct Debits from Bankia after which I close my Bankia account?

I don't know.  She never had a a Spanish  bank account. She did everything  through  her Irish  account.  I myself am planning to  do the same  as soon as I can get back to Spain.

Hi. My friend comes from Ireland. She owns an Apartment.

She doesn't have a Spanish  bank  account  and pays  all her Bill's ect.

Through her Irish bank account.

No doubt possible, but I needed an account when buying my property as I granted power of attorney to my solicitors, and  I pay my utilities and Suma taxes thru the Spanish account. I do know that my Irish Bank now charges for transfers to Spain - I have a fee free account. I also know that withdrawals using my Irish cards attract a service fee.  If I was using a UK based account, I'd check that Brexit wasn't going to cause me problems beforehand. I would like to switch to a full service bank here, but one with a decent service in English, at least for now. I also use my bank for my house insurance, and an English speaking service is very welcome. One possible option might be the online german bank N26 which is an actual bank, as opposed to revolut which isn't. I do have an account with them. I've not tried to withdraw money on the card in Spain, nor have I tried to set up DD's, but it might work out. The basic account is free, and I have to say, very useful and easy.

We're non resident and use the N26 bank account in Spain. They offer a spanish IBAN which makes it easy to pay direct debits through them and they are a bank which means you get the €100,000 bank guarantee.

You also get a free a debit card for shopping etc and fee free withdrawals at ATM's (5 free withdrawals a month). There are currently no fees with this account and the customer service is in English & very good.

I think  it's a  E U  thing.  With the banks.  So Brexit  might impacked  on a   U K bank account.

I see from 2019 N26 offered a Spanish IBAN, but only to new customers by the look of things on their blog.i set my account up before that, and have a German IBAN (denoted by beginning with DE). In theory all  current accounts across-the-board in the Eurozone should be accepted, but I don't think that's actually the case. I know N26 don't charge for withdrawals, but I don't think that applies to the bank you are actually using to get cash. In an era of pandemic, most places should allow you to tap, but in reality this doesn't happen. I had to use cash at the botanical gardens here in Valencia, the fee was too small to tap. So cash will be needed and therefore fees incurred at ATM's. Is it still cheaper to use a foreign bank?  Most probably. And I would likely use N26 as it has excellent security features, but personally I want to look into it more before  I close Sabadell.

N26 isn't a UK account, It's actually a German based online account. Brexit will have no impact on the account. N26 pulled out of the UK because it would need a UK banking licence to remain in the UK....

This is really good to know, thanks Pauline.

Hi!

I tried to open a Wefferent account recently as a non-resident but it says it is only for Spanish people and those who have tajeta residencia, and you can only open it online. Anyone has a different experience? I have a NIE number though.

Thanks!

Jo

Hi Jo

read on further in the posts - I tried as well and had the same results. I believe Pauline may have got other advices over the phone with the bank, so it's not entirely clear.
