Am asking advice for a neighbour.  She has cancelled her Norton security several times, but the fee is still being taken from her account. Her bank say they cannot cancel the direct debit, and she doesn't know why?  This surely can't be right. It's your money!! Would anyone be able to tell me if a bank has the right to refuse a DD cancellation. Gracias.

Is it definitely a direct debit & not a continuous card authority  payment? She should be able to cancel it on Norton website but if not her bank should be able to cancel it I would expect ( I know in UK you would request a CATS cancellation- continuous authority transaction) but I know things are done differently here .

If she paid initially with a credit card then she will almost certainly have entered a continuous authority agreement.

For the record there is never any need for a home computer user to pay for an anti virus programme, the free versions provide all the protection you really need.

Thank you so much. I will give it to my neighbour. 2 payments of 119€ have been taken from her account,so they are making an appointment at the bank. She may be getting a little mixed up about things, but they are so upset about the money going out. She did say,it was a DD,but I was pretty sure the bank couldn't refuse, hence asking the advice on here. Most kind of you.

A member of her family set it all up some years ago apparently. Don't know any more than that. We are silver surfers,so are not equipped to help her. Knew this site would though. Gracias.
