If it's to pay bills etc, are you not able to do that through your Maltese bank, so not bother with a Spanish bank?

Ahh yes I think for that you need a Spanish account. Though might also be worth asking your Spanish solicitor if they can hold the funds for you in escrow,as they do in the UK, where your purchase funds sit in a solicitors client account until payment required at completion. But in my own case, my solicitor would not do that, so went with Sabadell. Ill be closing that account though as soon as I am able (they have told me i have to go into the branch to do so apparently!) :-)

There are quarterly charges for non-resident accounts, but as you're intending to move here then resident bank accounts can be free, especially if your pension or a regular sum is paid into the account.

Sabadell have started to impose chardes of 5€ a month even for Resident accounts.

Noted, but bear in mind when I said that. It was true at the time.

To transfer from Spain Sabadell to Starling Bank Euro Account, I understand I need to do a SEPA transaction. I can see response that there is no charge from UK to Sabadell, but what about from Sabadell to a UK Euro account Starling. They have said to do a SEPA and I cannot see how to do this.
