My rental property has been vacant during the pandemic however Iberdrola have continued to take monthly direct debits from my bank account. Does anyone know whether I can request that the credit sitting on my Iberdrola account is credited back to my bank account (to help with cash flow while I am not receiving any rental income).

Yes I’m afraid they are standing charges which accrue even if you shut the power off at the mains. Prices vary with a 5kwh charge around €24pm. Takings must be well down for the power companies now with many seasonal homes unoccupied for a long periods. Their losses mustve been lessened though during the lockdown when many residents were stuck indoors

Yes, but the closed offices/factories/schools where those people usually worked were consuming nothing like their normal energy figures.
The cost of the power generating capacity/cables/transformers doesn't go away if homes/offices/factories are unused, hence the standing charge.
