Just ask the driver of whatever bus you are boarding at your stop for a " tarjeta" and you can put 10, 20 or whatever amount on it. Each time you use it your printed ticket will show what your balance is and you can recharge it as you need to. Thats what I do, so handy and if you are travelling with a partner you can use it for the 2 tickets.
No need to go to the bus station for the card unless you happen to be there anyway.
