I will arrive in England on the 7th October and will need to take the 2 day PCR test. Can someone please recommend me a reliable test provider.

I have used Randox multiple times and never had any issues and always got my results the day after I returned the test.

Hi. I must have been unlucky here because it is the opposite way round for me. Randox have been extremely efficient. I have just heard now that it will no longer be necessary for the PCR test when returning but that the cheaper lateral flow test will replace it

Hi Maverick49,

Do you mean for returning to England?  The UK government has said they are considering switching from PCR to Antigen for the Day 2 test toward the end of October,  but no date has been  confirmed yet.  On 4 October, they abolished the requirement for a pre-departure test, so long as you're double-vaccinated.

Kind regards,

Kim

Yes just heard it on the radio now that the lateral flow test will now replace the PCR test. ( 2 day test ). I just missed the date it comes in as I turned the radio too late. It sounds like it will be introduced before the end of October as was previously assumed.

Hi Maverick49,

Still no date announced on Gov.UK, but this extract suggests an announcement will be made on or before 29 October (half term this year is 25th to 29th Oct):

"As announced last month, the new rules also mean that from later in October, eligible fully vaccinated passengers, with an approved vaccine and recognised certificate from a country not on the red list, will be able to replace their day 2 test with a cheaper lateral flow test, reducing the cost of tests on arrival into England. The government aims to have this in place for when people return from half-term breaks."

This could explain my problem with them.

No-one on the govt list is an approved supplier. It is a recommended list.  Companies not on the list can still be used.

There is a workaround for Expert Medicals - instead of completing the details which often results in the form not being completed, go straight and add it to the basket. You then provide the email address where they send the reference for your UK form.

Used them twice now as have friends and results came back quickly.

Hi. Their system collapsed when I tried to book the 2 day test so I was just unlucky.
I didn’t have time to wait so opted for Randox which so far has gone like clockwork. It will be interesting to see if they come back with the result on time

Luckily for all those returning later this month ( exact date unknown yet ) and  as most of you know, it will be the lateral flow test instead of PCR.

Hi Maverick49,

An article in yesterday's Telegraph quoted Grant Shapps saying that the Government was unlikely to be able to effect the switch from PCR to Antigen test by the end of the month and travellers should continue to book a PCR for the Day 2 test.

Kind regards,

Kim
