You find your information here  (654)

https://coronavirus.san.gva.es/es/estadisticas

The local town halls give a more accurate weekly update  of active cases on their Facebook pages

I’ve been asking the same question and have found that there’s probably FAR MORE than is being recorded. I’m told by people who caught  Covid19 that they telephone md the Spanish number but couldn’t speak to anyone in English. Some Jeff their ‘phone number but we’re never contacted by anyone. My close friends ‘phoned their local doctor and said they’d tested positive for Covid. They were told that she would ‘phone 4 days later and arrange for an ambulance to take them fir a PCR test in Torrevieja Hospital.  Neither the call nor the ambulance were heard of.  So, no PCR test was done.  Same happened with their English neighbours. Antigen tests are not free but can be bought in the chemist for about €6.80 each. My friend bought 2 boxes (10 in total) for €50.  It’s a good idea to have some tests in the event that you become unwell.
The reason the numbers in the U.K.and the REP of IRELAND are so high is that the tests are freely available snd most everyone is testing.

  1. Numbers in Spain are much lower than the UK because Spain has the third highest take up of vaccinations in Europe,  with 80.9  % of the population being fully vaccinated, compared to 69 % in the UlK , who are down at 13 .

Also at the moment PCRs and lateral flow tests can’t be found for love nor money in the UK . Even NHS staff aren’t being tested as there aren’t any! It’s all over the press and TV, so I don’t think you can say i the UK are testing more than Spain or even Torrevieja

See the table below in the photo section. I can’t seem to post it any other way

In my area at least , London, lateral flow and PCR tests are freely available.  Most pharmacies receive a daily supply of LF tests and they can be ordered online.  My family of 5 have easily obtained enough LF tests to test daily for the past few weeks and have easily obtained PCR tests when required.   The press have sensationalised the occasional pause in supplies to create news.   The fact that they are free of charge encourages people to test regularly and report positive results so it’s highly likely that the number of cases appears high.

There are plenty test kits available we order 2 boxes of 7 regularly and normally arrived 2 days later, same as plenty of friends and family, believing paper talk unfotunately.

My wife was asked by her GP to take a PCR test last Wednesday, just before New Year. She could not get a home test kit until the Thursday and that meant probably not getting her result until after New Year's Eve. There were any number of walk-in or drive-in options available. She did a walk in test on Thursday morning, she had her (negative) result back at 17:03 Friday evening, by text and email . All free of charge of course. I suppose the one day wait for the home kit could be seen as a shortage by some................................

Aitch.

I’ve caught a ghastly cold and I’ve done 2 antigen tests which showed a negative result. My daughter insisted that I go for a PCR test this morning. No other symptoms but vital that I get tested. Going to a drive in close to my home at 10.30am so will know if I’ve succumbed or not later on.

Like the previous poster who firmly believes that Covid19 is very low in Spain, I was of a similar mind until recently when our friends tested positive. It was almost like they were the only people in Spain who had it!  I also liked to believe this fiction too. It allowed me to stop worrying about catching it when staying in Torrevieja.  Now, I’d prefer to know the truth so that I can be extra careful. After they recovered, they discovered that it was rife and still is.  Neighbours have it. Bar owners have it, it’s out there and if people don’t believe this, it’s a case of “ there are none so blind as he who will not see”

More a case of what some people want to beleive ! We have friends in Torry who say it is rife, but does not get publiced or in a lot of cases, reported.

If tests are not readily available and have to be paid for, and it’s not easy to report positive results , there must be many unreported cases.  I can’t believe Torreviega has miraculously escaped the worldwide spread of highly infectious Omicron.
