Thank you so much for this information.

Good luck with your studies

Ursula

You're very welcome.

I can't put links on here, but if you are looking for accommodation you can google 'idealista'. You can bookmark searches and they'll email you daily or weekly with new stuff that matches your preferences.

Alicante really is a lovely place to walk around, especially the Centro Tradicional, Mercado and the promenade area along the front - you can actually walk for 2km right around the marina and out to sea - brilliant around 10 o'clock at night - the smell of food will drive you mad. It's also got a nice city-centre feel if you like to shop. Make sure you try the Cortes Ingles on Avenida Frederico Soto.

Good luck and take care.

Thanks again for your grest advice.

Have you visited Altea? I may move there. They say it's beautiful,an hour from Alicante on the tram.

Sorry, I haven't been up the coast much, but I've heard it's nice, also Denia a bit further up gets good reviews.

As you don't drive you may wish to download these very useful apps to your smartphone, if you haven't already:

1 Alicante Bus (vectalia): mega useful with realtime updates for each bus stop

2 Tram d'Alcante: same as bus, but for trams

3 pidetaxi: general portal, very useful when you miss that last bus

All available on the app store & play store.

Good luck and take care

What a sad and useless comment!! :-(

Ursula, I hope you had a nice easter holiday and still found friendly and helpful expats in and around Torrevieja.

Well I've nearly completed buying my home in Torrevieja and I love it.

My friend bought hers 2 years ago and also loves it.

The views are lovely. The Spanish are so polite and welcoming.

When I was last over in March every culture I met, were polite and helpful

Hope this helps you more that others past replies

Jane

THERE ARE NICER PLACES URSULA

Of course there are nicer places. There are also worse places. Perhaps you could explain your point of view, in order to assist the OP in making her decision.

I live in La Mata and love it here. I’m a couple of minutes walk to the beach; have lots of restaurants to choose from; it’s fairly quiet apart from July and August. We have a great (free) bus service into Torrevieja. All amenities are a few minutes walk away.

Hello Jane,

Thank you for your kind reply.

Yes,undoubtedly the Spanish people are very warm and friendly, that I noticed first off.If I move,I will move alone, and I am not sure how many ladies are prepared to do this after 50+ age. I know nobody there.

Did uou move to Spain alone ot with a partner.Perhaps you had friends there?

I find it difficult to leave my children behind me and uproot.I did this once from Londonvto Switzerland. My French is an excellent level now,and I will have to immerse myelf in another language and culture 😏

I have heard that the basic health care there means you are often put on a 'waiting list.' What have you heard about this? Private health care is an optiin of course.

Best regards,

Ursula

A lady I met on here has also done it alone and shes in her 50s.

I'm going to spend time in Torrevieja and in England.

I'm not sure about the health care side yet.

When over in March I had a fall and used my travel insurance to sort things.

Landed up on crutches.

Still sorted buying my home.

As nothing stops me.

This page is great for support.

I’ve had an apartment in Torrevieja for sixteen years and love Torrevieja. Lots happening, lovely parks and walks. Good eating and lovely people.
